Voicechat Help

This page is Voicechat Help. The diagram shows how the standard telephone touch tone buttons are used to send Voicechat commands. The navigation buttons used in PhoneFromHere are shown where applicable. All touch tones shown are as used when in play mode. If in pause mode the bracketing by 3 would be on the alternate command. A full list of all the commands follows in the way they are spoken in the the audio help.

Voicechat is equipped with recorded help messages.
Press * to play the help messages; if you are in playback it will say:

"You are in the Playback menu. Press any key to hear the help message that corresponds to that key or press * to play the entire help message. While listening to the help message press that key again to carry out the action that corresponds to that key. "

Please note.* is pronounced star and # is pronounced pound, [italics in square brackets] are additional notes not in the recordings. More details of the help messages for all the commands are below.

All the help messages and commands

Press * to play the help message; if you are in playback it will say:

You are in the Playback menu. {Press any key to hear the help message that corresponds to that key or press * to play the entire help message. While listening to the help message press that key again to carry out the action that corresponds to that key. <repeats 3 times>}

If you then press a key, the following message will play:
1 Use the 1 key to jump back to the first message in the Voicechat playlist.
2 and 8 You can use the 2 key to skip backwards 8 seconds in the current message and the 8 key to skip forweard 8 seconds in the current message.
3 Use the 3 key to pause all playback and press 3 again to return to normal playback. While playback is paused there are advanced options available. Press * while paused to here these options.
4 and 6 Use the 4 and the 6 keys to navigate back and forward through the message playlist.
5 Use the 5 key to repeat the current message. The system will also announce the current message number and that message's date and time. Press 5 again to cancel the announcement and begin playing that message from the beginning.
7 Use the 7 key to start playback from a specific message. You will prompted to enter the message number.
9 Use the 9 key to skip to the end of the playback list and wait for any new messsages to arrive.

0 Use the 0 key to enter the options menu.
# Press # to enter recording mode to compose a message and # again to stop the recording.
While listening to the help message press that key again to carry out the action that corresponds to that key.

* While in the playback menu use the keys in the telephone to navigate the Voicechat playlist.
While this help menu is playing you can press * at any time to move on to the next help topic.
At any time during this help message you may press a key on the telephone to carry out the action of that key.

Press # to enter recording mode to compose a message and # again to stop the recording.
Use the 9 key to skip to the end of the playback list and wait for any new messsages to arrive.
Use the 3 key to pause all playback and press 3 again to return to normal playback. While playback is paused there are advanced options available. Press the * key while paused to here these options.
Use the 4 and the 6 keys to navigate back and forward through the message playlist. Use the 4 key to go back to the previous message and the 6 key to skip to the next message. <note the extra phrase>

Use the 7 key to start playback from a specific message. You will prompted to enter the message number.

If 3 is pressed while in playback mode, playback is paused and some keys operate differently including * for help.

* Playback is currently paused. While playback is paused many of the navigation keys work the same, however others have more advanced features.

* While this help menu is playing you can press * at any time to move on to the next help topic.
At any time during this help message you may press a key on the telephone to carry out the action of that key.
Use the 3 key to return to normal playback.
Use the 2 key and the 8 key to skip backwards and forwards by groups of messages. Message groups are separated by a break of more than 5 minutes between messages. The 2 key jumps to the first message of the current group, while the 8 key jumps to the first message of the next group.
The 1 key is used to skip backwards to the first message of that day or the previous day if already on the first message.
The 9 key is used to skip forward to the first message of the next day.
Use the 4 and the 6 keys to navigate back and forward through the message playlist.
Use the 5 key to hear the current message's number and that message's date and time. Press 5 again to cancel the announcement and playback will remain paused.
Use the 7 key to start playback from a specific message. You will prompted to enter the message number.
Use the 0 key to enter the options menu.
Press # to enter recording mode to compose a message and # again to stop the recording.
[Before recording starts the announcement "recording" is heard.]

While we are recording we may use the 3 key to both stop recording and pause playback [useful to give oneself a moment for quiet thought before continuing recording]; we then get the following announcement:

Recording paused, press 3 to silence this announcement, press # to continue recording, press 0 to exit to the previous menu, press 3 to hear this message again.

When in playback or pause one may use the 0 key to enter the options menu. We then hear:

You are in the options menu, press 1 to toggle the message number announcement interruptions, press 2 to toggle playback of own messagesl press 0 to return to the playback menu. [We return to the playback menu in playback or pause mode depending on the state when we left it. After a few seconds the options menu exits and an announcement is heard
You are in the playback menu and this is the case whether playing back or paused. When at the end of the voicechat play list and not paused "to compose a message, press #" is announced periodically.]

1 Message number announcement interruptions are now on/off.
2 Playback of your own messages is now on/off.

7 You have selected to re-post messages from the current playlist to the chatroom. Playlist messages will be posted to the current ibook topic page. Press 1 to continue, press 0 to exit.
1 Set the starting point message number. The current message number is ... . Press 1 to continue and start at this message number, press 7 to enter playback navigation mode and select the starting point message number, press 0 to exit.
1 Set the ending point message number. The current message number is ... . Press 1 to continue and stop at this message number, press 7 to enter playback navigation mode and select the ending point message number, press 0 to exit.

* or 4 or 6 or 8 You are in the playback menu.
9 announces present time and returns to the options menu.
5 keeps saying 4 and playing a message <seems spurious or I dont understand it Q Chris>
3 returns to options menu but appears to also pause playback whatever the prior state.

In Phonefromhere we use navigation buttons; hovering the cursor over each displays the function and the corresponding touch tones to have the same efect in play mode.
